We invite contemporary practitioners in textiles to become artist in residence within our BA (Hons) Textiles for Fashion and Interiors and MA Textiles courses. Our courses uniquely combine textile craft traditions in print and weave with exciting innovative materials-based textile design, creatively mixing tradition with innovation.
We are seeking proposals for the development of new work to be undertaken within the creative learning environment of our undergraduate and postgraduate textile courses. We are particularly seeking artists with skills in either Weave, Screen-printing or digital printing but we welcome applications from all textiles specific artists.
We offer access to our well-equipped design studios, extensive print and weave workshops, excellent dye labs, a dedicated ICT suite, computerised dobby looms, large scale digital printing facilities and a laser cutter. The position requires a teaching contribution of one day a week as an opportunity to interact with the student body and contribute a model of creative professional practice within the University.
The position of artist in residence is for one year starting in September 2011 and concluding in August 2012. The starting time is negotiable depending on the notice you may have to give to take up the residency. There is an expectation that you will be at the university at least two days a week. One day supporting students and at least one day continuing your practice in the studio. The artist in residence post is an unpaid post. One day a week supporting the students is exchanged for access to our textiles studios and equipment.
