Job Purpose
Research into Polyomics data sets. Development of novel algorithms and exploitation of other software to process and analyze data generated at the Glasgow Polyomics Facility (GPF) and beyond, in the areas of either genomics and transcriptomics or proteomics/metabolomics and their integration with other omics, by using and extending the existing and newly developed bioinformatics software. Two positions in each area are available.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide high-end bioinformatics research and analysis to individual next generation sequencing projects or proteomics/metabolomics projects run at GPF.
2. Contribute to the research activities of GPF with the possibility to develop an individual research programme.
3. Develop, optimize, automate and update bioinformatics analysis workflows for various applications of the next generation sequencing and microarrays technologies or proteomics/metabolomics projects.
4. Optimise presentation and dissemination of the results as well as integration with data generated by other omics.
5. Communicate with individual PIs in order to understand the bioinformatics analysis requirements and to explain both the techniques used and the results generated.
6. Maintain records and databases, and undertake general administration and clerical tasks supporting the projects.
7. Contribute to documenting research results for inclusion in papers, reports, and presentations, and contribute to the preparation of designated parts of such papers, reports and presentations. For appointment at Grade 7 To write up research findings / outcomes and publish papers in high quality journals.
8. Contribute to the presentation of work at internal departmental or group seminars and external seminars and/or national and international conferences to enhance the profile of the research group.
9. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings/discussions and departmental research group activities.
10. Assist in the supervision and training of undergraduate or postgraduate students, and/or technical staff where appropriate
11. Continuing professional development: developing research skills, keeping knowledge up to date through attendance at and contributing to conferences and seminars; participating in local research groups to build up networks with other colleagues in the field.
12. Contribute to Supervision of the GPF informatics and software development teams
For appointment at grade 7, you will take a leading role in all of the above.

Salary will be on the University's Research and Teaching Grade, level 6, £25,854 - £29,099 , level 7, £31,798 - £35,788 per annum.
A market supplement may be available if we are unable to appoint at this level.
This post is funded until the end of March 2015.
New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.
