Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, and Academic Department of Rheumatology, Division of Immunology, Infection & Inflammatory Diseases, School of Medicine

Through a generous endowment from the George Koukis Foundation to the Lupus Unit at St Thomas’ Hospital, the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics is seeking to recruit with immediate effect a senior academic of international renowned to become the first George Koukis Professor in Molecular Medicine.  Since this is a joint position between two Divisions in the School of Medicine, the post holder will be expected to establish an internationally competitive research group within the Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, and the Division of Immunology, Infection and Inflammatory Disease. Further, the post holder will be expected to collaborate with other colleagues within the Health Schools, where obvious complimentary scientific expertise exists. Scientific excellence in the field is the key factor and a clinician with an international record in basic molecular genetic research in the field of autoimmunity is required for this post.

It is expected that the post holder would have a strong track record as a fundraiser with grants from research councils and high profile medical charities.  The successful candidate’s curriculum vitae must be compatible with the School’s mission of 90% REF return at 4* or 3*.  Further, it is anticipated that the post holder’s areas of scientific excellence will be within the specific areas important to Rheumatology and Genetics, as agreed in the School’s strategic plan. The post holder will be expected to play an important role in delivering the teaching commitments of the Departments and Divisions.  Furthermore, as the post holder is likely to be a clinician, he/she will have an honorary Trust appointment (GSTFT), and will fulfil an important clinical role to be agreed with the Head of Service. The precise responsibilities of the post-holder for teaching of scientists, clinicians and medical students will depend on their skills and experience.

The salary will be from £76,666 inclusive of £2,162 London Allowance per annum
