Fixed Term Contract - up to 2 Years
Circa £22,000 per annum

An exciting and challenging post has arisen under the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships Programme. You will be working on behalf of NASS, as the partner organisation, based at the MacIntyre Wingrave School near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire but employed by The University of Northampton. All the usual benefits of KTP Associate status apply to this post: a comprehensive training package, academic and commercial supervision, and paid study support towards a postgraduate qualification (for more information about KTP see http://www.ktponline.org.uk/graduates ). In addition the option of free accommodation at the school is available for the successful candidate.

NASS, a registered charity, was formed in 1997 to provide advice and support to the UK's non-maintained and independent special schools. These schools cater for the most hard-to-place young people, almost all of whom are placed in these schools, often on a residential basis, by local authorities who cannot meet their needs. In 2006 The Centre for Special Needs Education and Research (CeSNER) at The University of Northampton carried out research for NASS into the wellbeing and mental health problems of children with complex SEN.

NASS is now looking to build on this research by developing training materials for teachers and support staff helping them to better identify mental health issues in children with complex needs and consequently require an SEN and Mental Health Resource Developer who will develop and implement a web-based training programme. You will have a degree in education, psychology or a related discipline and, ideally, at least 3 years experience working with children and young people with complex SEN, preferably in a school setting. The successful candidate will also have an interest, awareness or experience of mental health and/or emotional well-being together with the experience of delivering training and/or training materials.

A flexible team player, with first class interpersonal and organisational skills, you will be open-minded with excellent problem solving and innovative thinking skills. In addition you will have the ability to travel between sites and the drive and motivation to ensure the project reaches a successful conclusion. You will also be required to study for a professional qualification in Management and obtain a research based higher degree linked to your KTP activity.

This post is subject to a background disclosure check by the Criminal Records Bureau before any appointment can be confirmed.
