The Role
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Social Policy to ensure the provision of academic, administrative, and pastoral support for Medway students and will contribute to the School's profile through high quality funded research and publication. You will be expected to make a strong contribution to the Schools REF return. The main teaching responsibilities of this post are to deliver social policy modules at all stages and levels (undergraduate and postgraduate). There are three undergraduate degree programmes currently offered within SSPSSR on the University's Medway campus: BSc Social Sciences, BA Criminal Justice Studies, and BA Social Work. Some modules in social policy are shared between these programmes. In addition, all staff are involved in research methods training.
The Person
You will hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant social science discipline with experience of high quality research and publication. You will have experience of teaching in lectures and seminars with knowledge of current debates and issues in social policy. With high quality research skills you will be dynamic and self-motivated.
The Department
The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) is one of the largest departments of its type in the UK. The Faculty of Social Science at Kent includes seven out of the 17 departments in the University, and the School is the largest in the Faculty. The School has a strong research culture and in RAE 2008 the School retained its very high research standing with the largest submission to the Social Policy and Social Work Panel and was rated fourth in the UK. The School currently has over 120 staff spread across the Canterbury, Medway and Brussels campuses.
