Job description:
Baculoviruses cause disease in insects and have major biotechnological applications. In this postgenomic project the mechanism of virus infection of insects and insect cells will be studied and the viral encoded proteins that play a key role in this process will be determined using molecular and cellular technologies. The project aims at contributing to the selection and tailoring of baculoviruses as insect biocontrol agent, as expression vector for foreign genes to make proteins for veterinary and human applications and as gene therapy vector. The candidate should also be prepared to coordinate the activities of the project, which further include Ph.D students in Wageningen and Utrecht. This is a joint project with the Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China, and is sponsored by the KNAW.
Qualifications:
A molecular biologist, biotechnologist or biochemist having completed a PhD and having 1-3 years experience as a post-doc in the area of functional genomics, insect pathology, or molecular virology. Excellent experimental skills, a virological background and a solid publication record are required. The candidate should be proficient in English, have good communicative capabilities and eagerness to collaborate with Dutch and Chinese partners.
Remuneration:
This is a temporary position of 38 hours per week for a period of 4 years (1+3). We offer a maximum of gross wages per month of 3.597,- (scale 10) for a fulltime appointment.
