Job Ref: QMUL0697
Applications are invited for two posts of Research Assistant primarily based in the Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine, in collaboration with the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and also AXA-PPP - one of the world's leading insurance companies.
AXA-PPP is the world's largest insurance company and second biggest UK health care insurer with an annual spend of £350m on musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. They are working in collaboration with QMUL in order to develop new pathways for care with the dual aims of accelerating patient treatment and improving outcomes. The Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (CSEM) is part of Bart's and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London and at the forefront of UK SEM clinical, educational and research activity. The Risk and Information Management Group, in EECS, is a leader in the use of probabilistic risk management techniques.
This inter-disciplinary project will deliver evidence and consensus based pathways for management of a range of MSK conditions, both in terms of general processes of management and specific treatment descriptors for five conditions. The appointees will require skills in knowledge elicitation, the analysis of data and report writing. We will be appointing a team of researchers who will bring a portfolio of skills including medical knowledge, the use of techniques for decision-making and statistical modeling.
The post-holders will be supported and encouraged to undertake further training in research methods and other subjects related to the project. There will be further opportunities to be involved in other academic activities. There is a strong possibility of the work being continued in the longer term, although this is not assured. AXA-PPP expects to be recruiting to strengthen their team, and experience in this project would be a major advantage in applying for relevant roles.
This is a one year fixed term appointment (renewable, subject to funding and performance).
The salary scale is on Research Grade 5, £33,944-£39,936 per annum inclusive.
