The University of Surrey is a global university with a world-class research profile and an enterprising spirit. Inventive and forward-thinking, its heritage shows a recurring theme of going its own way, doing things differently – and achieving notable results.
The Surrey Business School (SBS) is an internationally recognised centre for management research and teaching. We are accredited by AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), one of only 15 in the UK, and by AMBA (the Association of MBAs). We run one of the largest management PhD programmes in the UK, and our research is funded from RCUK, research charities, the NHS, the EU and private sector sources. The 2001 RAE graded the School at 4, and in 2008 10% of our work was rated as World Leading (4*) and 40% as Internationally Excellent (3*). The School was ranked 15th in Management in the 2011 Sunday Times league table. We are committed to sustaining this upward trajectory for REF 2014.
The School’s ambition is to become one of the UK’s top 10 business schools and we are currently investing heavily to recruit staff whose work is innovative and consequential for international research agendas. To this end, we are expanding our capabilities in Entrepreneurship. Our intention is to create a world class Entrepreneurship Research Group and to make entrepreneurialism, in all its forms, a core component of the School’s identity. The appointed candidate will be given the opportunity to help progress this strategic development. Surrey’s location in one of the UK’s most successful and innovative business regions, its proximity to London, membership of the Set Squared Research Park initiative, and reputation for scientific and technological innovation, provide an exciting base upon which to build this ambition.

Candidates will bring an excellent record of scholarship and research of international significance, demonstrated by a strong publication profile and the capability to generate sustained research funding. We are looking for individuals with the potential to develop world-leading research and who are also virtuoso teachers at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The School’s commitment to becoming a key national and international player means that candidates will also need to demonstrate an enthusiasm to support and develop junior staff and to work with colleagues from different disciplines on research projects that tap into the current concerns of research funders and the business community.
This is a period of exciting development and opportunity for SBS; the successful candidates will participate in developing innovative approaches to research, teaching and strategy that contribute to achieving our goal of becoming a world renowned business school.
We can offer a generous remuneration package, which includes relocation assistance where appropriate, the latest teaching facilities, and access to a variety of staff development opportunities.
