MSD is the largest pharmaceutical company in the Netherlands. It has large production facilities for Human Health and Animal Health in Oss, Haarlem and Boxmeer and R&D facilities in Boxmeer and Oss. The MSD Development Center in Oss (DCO) supports MSD's need for product development activities, particularly for the emerging markets. The DCO is also involved in Product Value Enhancement and it supports MSD's early phase clinical research in multiple therapeutic areas.

MSD Nederland, located in Haarlem, also includes local medical, registration and marketing departments.

The Center for Materials Science & Engineering (CMSE) comprises a comprehensive set of materials science laboratories in MMD Science & Technology that serve Supply and Commercialization operations in Merck Manufacturing. The Center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for material characterization, including tools for solid state analysis, spectroscopic imaging, powder analysis and small scale processing. The group delivers expertise in material characterization and engineering science to support product optimization, process improvement and troubleshooting investigations for Drug Substance and Drug Product manufacture.

The growing regional section of CMSE, sited at Oss, supports the EMEA area of manufacturing sites including Europe, Middle East and Africa. We now have opportunities for Scientists & Engineers to join the Center to support projects from these manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities
In this role there will be opportunities to:

  • Provide consulting expertise, technical leadership and laboratory support to understand the relationships between material structure, product function and processing performance for a wide range of pharmaceutical products.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams and represent the CMSE function with Global Technical Operations, Analytical Sciences and Quality Operations.
  • Develop in-depth expertise in the areas of material characterization, product formulation and pharmaceutical processing.

Profile

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or MSc with minimum of 5 years relevant laboratory experience.
  • Expertise in at least one area of material characterization such as crystallography, microscopy, image analysis, thermal methods or spectroscopy.
  • Strong problem solving, experimental design and execution skills.
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills
  • 25% travelling abroad is expected.
