Research Position

Tenable for six months at payscale 13 TV-G-U, halftime, commencing January 1st, 2011, at the Goethe-University Frankfurt, Germany, for the ERC Starting Grant Project "New Migrant Socialities: Ethnic Club Cultures in Urban Europe". Project Leader: Prof. Dr. Kira Kosnick. ERC Starting Grants enable young research talents in Europe to conduct pioneering research projects on interdisciplinary topics and establish their own independent research teams (http://erc.europa.eu). The project is affiliated with the Department of Basic Research in the Social Sciences (III) at the Goethe University Frankfurt.

Job Description

The successful applicant will carry out ethnographic research on the social aspects of migrant clubbing scenes with a focus on sexually non-normative club scenes frequented by British Asians in London. Fieldwork will include participant observation and interviews. Close cooperation with the project leader as well as the research team is expected. The working language of the project is English. London allowance provided.

Requirements

Required education/skills: excellent MA degree or equivalent in anthropology, sociology, cultural studies or related disciplines. Ethnographic research experience, preferably in urban environments is required, as well as research experience related to sexual and ethnic minorities. Very good spoken and written English is necessary.

Conditions of Employment

Duration of the contract: 6 months. The duration of the contract is subject to the legal provisions of the "Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz" (law regulating time limited contracts for scientists) together with the "Hessisches Hochschulgesetz" (Hessian Law for Higher Education). Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales which apply at the Goethe-University (TV-G-U).
