The Department of Primary Care and Public Health Sciences, within the Division of Health and Social Care Research, wishes to recruit a full time Research Associate / Fellow.  The successful applicant will take on a dual role, working on a research study and providing advice on research methodology to the NIHR Research Design Service London.

The Research Associate / Fellow will contribute to an ongoing evaluation of a vascular screening programme, which is investigating the potential to improve population health, reduce inequalities and explore health economic implications. This will include providing quantitative input to series of research studies that aim to evaluate vascular risk screening uptake and screening outcomes. The studies aim to evaluate socioeconomic inequalities in screening uptake, evaluate strategies to promote uptake in lower socioeconomic groups, and to evaluate short and intermediate outcomes of the vascular risk screening programme. In addition, there will be opportunities to contribute to other ongoing epidemiological studies. The post-holder will take a lead role in designing and implementing statistical analyses and preparing papers for publication.

The NIHR Research Design Service London has been set up to provide support to investigators applying for research funding and is funded by the Department of Health.  The post holder will be expected to provide expert advice and guidance on research design to clinical and academic researchers who are preparing funding applications.  This will include advising on the use of appropriate methodologies and study designs.

The applicant should have research training, skills and experience in a discipline relevant to health services research as well as excellent interpersonal skills.  Experience of conducting research using qualitative and quantitative methods, analysing clinical and epidemiological datasets and skills in appraising research proposals and giving constructive feedback are essential.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications within the Grade 6 to 7 scale, currently £30,870 to £44,016 plus £2,323 London Allowance, per annum.  Benefits include an annual season ticket loan scheme and a superannuation scheme. This post is fixed-term to September 2013.
