Summary:

A vacancy now exists for a Research Technician to work with Professor David Beerling, Professor Jonathan Leake and Dr Duncan Cameron on a project supported by the Natural Environment Research Council, entitled: 'Origin and Co-evolution of Land Plant-fungal Symbioses During the 'Greening of the Earth''.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Research Technician to join a large, high profile research department, on an exciting integrative palaeobiology project researching the functional nature of the nutritional symbiosis between fungi and early land plants that facilitated the emergence of the terrestrial biosphere.  The post will provide an interesting and varied workload employing a range of laboratory skills, including samples being exchanged with co-investigators at the Natural History Museum and Kew Gardens.

The post-holder will be required to assist with CO2 experiments undertaken in the Sir David Read Controlled Environment Facility, and undertake sampling a range of plant (liverwort) species, DNA fingerprinting of their fungal associates, using radio-isotope tracers and a suite of laboratory analysis.

You will have an ONC/BTEC (or equivalent) in Biology, Ecology, Chemistry or related subject (or equivalent experience) and relevant laboratory experience, preferably including analytical chemistry and isotope tracer work.

This post is fixed-term with a start date of 1 April 2012 for a period of 12 months, extendable for up to a further 24 months subject to funding.
