The position is available at DTU Environment from October 01, 2010. The position is renewable contingent on performance and fund availability.
Responsibilities and tasks
The main tasks are to propose, develop and utilize novel approaches to isolate soil microbes and consortia that are able to efficiently degrade pesticide at environmentally-relevant low concentrations. The Senior Researcher will be expected to take the lead on developing innovative systems that can recreate some of the physicochemical features of soil microhabitats while remaining directly observable via microscopy. Additionally, he/she will be expected to contribute to student supervision and, to a limited extent, to the departmental teaching offerings in environment microbiology/microbial ecology. The successful candidate might also be involved Public Sector Consultancy.
Qualifications
The candidate should hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Microbial Ecology as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a post as Researcher or Postdoc, with documented research experience in the following areas:
-Microbial biodegradation of pesticides (specifically, phenoxy acids)
-Soil science
-Environmental modeling & biostatistics
-Advanced microscopy
The candidate must have the documented ability to design and develop novel experimental platforms or methods in the field of soil microbial ecology. The candidate must be able to work independently and in a research team, in an interdisciplinary, cross institutional and international research environment, and disseminate his/her findings in oral and written research communications. The candidate must also have an experience and aptitude for student supervision.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
