The School of Geography is seeking to appoint two Teaching Fellows in Human Geography from 1 September 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter. The School offers a research-learning culture that delivers an outstanding student experience, backed by an international presence and reputation. These qualities have contributed to substantial growth in income, research capabilities and student numbers in recent years. In the latest RAE assessment we are placed firmly in the top 10 for research quality, and The Times Good University Guide 2011 ranks us at no 12 in the UK.

We are looking for exceptional people who wish to contribute to a vibrant and growing School by teaching on our Human Geography degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The post would suit either an experienced teacher of Human Geography at FE/HE level or a recent PhD Graduate, who has decided to seek a career in teaching rather than research.

The successful applicant will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support and use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students. They will participate in and develop external networks, for example to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities.

The starting salary will be £31,671 per annum on Grade F, depending on qualifications and experience.

For an informal discussion of this opportunity, please contact the Head of Geography: Professor Dan Charman: d.j.charman@exeter.ac.uk or telephone 44 (0) 1392 722435.

Application packs are available from http://www.admin.ex.ac.uk/personnel/jobs/N2873.pdf

Completed applications should be returned to Judith Muir, School of Geography, University of Exeter, Amory Building Rennes Drive, Exeter, Devon, EX4 4RJ quoting the job reference N2873.

The closing date for completed applications is 12 noon, Friday 13 August.

The University of Exeter is an equal opportunity employer and promotes diversity in its workforce and, whilst all applicants will be judged on merit alone, is particularly keen to consider applications from groups currently underrepresented in the workforce.
