Project Description
Speciality coatings prevent flame spread, saving lives and money. This new technology requires understanding of fire retardant mechanisms and a strong science background to interpret the behaviour of coatings in real fire tests. New formulations will be designed and evaluated on a microscale, using a combination of pyrolysis GC-MS and TGA-FTIR, prior to bench and real-scale trials.
The project will be under the supervision of Professor Richard Hull. Applicants should have, or expect to receive, an upper second class or first class honours degree or an MSc in a related discipline.
Proposed start date is 1st October 2008, and interviews will be held on Thursday 21st August.
Informal project related enquiries may be directed to Professor Richard Hull (+44 1772 893543, trhull@uclan.ac.uk).
Requests for an application pack (quoting the reference number RS/08/08) should be directed to the Graduate Research Office. Tel +44 (0)1772 894287 or e-mail researchdegrees@uclan.ac.uk
Closing Date: 15th August 2008.
